With all the “New Year-New You” mojo blasting off at the start of a new year….here are some tips to keep you aligned with your authentic truth.
In honor of my upcoming 6 wk coaching course: LIVE YOUR TRUTH. LOVE YOUR LIFE. my next few vlogs will be centered on TRUTH: How to know it. How to follow it. The keys to living from your center of truth every day, in every way. Living from your highest truth is the key in how to reach your goals.
1. What brings you the most JOY?
When you look back on last year, what brought you the most JOY? Similarly, when you look ahead to next year….what would bring you more JOY and happiness? This is the key to what your truth is. Not your mentors’, colleagues’ or friends’ truth, but your truth.
It’s crucial that we develop a discerning palate – the ability to separate out our personal, authentic truth from that of our parents’, siblings’, expectations of others, past stories and previous roles and identities. Our truth is always changing!
Keep yourself in check, by continually asking yourself (multiple times a day) – What makes me happy? What brings me joy? Take time to check in, listen to your body, look around and keep molding your life and your decisions based on what you truly enjoy.
2. Turn your attention INWARD. (i.e. MEDITATE)
In yoga, the word for TRUTH is SATYA. It is the same root word as SATTVA. Sattva is the most balanced, harmonious state of energy. Sattva is poised for action, but resting at peace. One of the key attributes of sattvic energy is that it moves inward.
3 states of energy or Gunas:
1. Tamas: heavy, dense, moving downward, depressive if imbalanced (think: couch potato)
2. Rajas: active, light, moving outward, anxiety provoking if imbalanced (think: over-acheiver/workaholic, Type-A personality, never enough)
3. Sattva: balanced, harmonious, moving inward, peaceful, poised, centered (think: your wise, grounded, highest Self, knowing your value with nothing to prove)
One of the keys to knowing your truth is to turn your attention INWARD. i.e. MEDITATION.
Whatever your spiritual practice (sadhana), spend the first few moments of your day (ideally 15-30min.) tuning in. Whatever works for you: journal, write, chant, pray, read some spiritual books, breathe deeply and calmly, meditate, visualize, get silent and listen….just turn IN.
Ask yourself: What do I need? What do I want?
3. TRUST that your TRUTH will naturally arise.
Open yourself up. Visualize yourself as an open vessel, a vase, a cauldron (whatever image works for you). Ask Spirit to fill you up, to lead you.
I envision myself sitting firmly grounded and rooted in the earth, with the crown of my head open to receive. I spend a few moments every day in this meditation, imagining a download of energy/inspiration filling me from above. This helps take the pressure off. There’s nothing I need to do.
Become OPEN + EMPTY.
Have PATIENCE + TRUST.
You are being guided. The more you listen to and follow your inner voice of TRUTH, the more available it will become to you. Instantly accessible on a moment to moment basis.
