Know Your Value
Bottom Line: We teach other people how to treat us.
You’ve probably heard this adage somewhere along the way. This week I had several different incidents, specifically in my professional life, where I felt like my time or work was not valued and held with the respect and integrity I would have liked. So I figured it was time to tackle the subject of KNOWING AND STANDING UP FOR YOUR VALUE.
Everything we experience outside of ourselves is just a reflection/projection of what is going on inside.
In a conversation with my colleague about how I was disappointed and frustrated with how she was showing up for me and our work together, how she was not following through on things or working with the upmost integrity – I had to take a clear look at how I was actually not following through and holding her accountable or requiring the level of integrity that I expected. How was I not as committed or working with the upmost integrity in my approach to our partnership?
In another instance, I was given a monetary offer for a project that I did not think valued my work or provided adequate compensation. I found myself frustrated and irritable. I paused to check in with myself and see where my own insecurities and self-doubt were actually undermining my self-worth. Where did I not feel I ‘was as good as’? Once I pierced through and corrected this negative self-talk, I was able to anchor into a dollar number that I thought fairly compensated my efforts and send a counter offer.
It is extremely powerful to stand up for your worth, know your value, candidly speak your truth and rightfully request your required compensation.
This week, I invite you to pull the projection back inside. Ask yourself:
How are you teaching people to treat you?
Could you show up with more integrity, impeccability or follow-through?
Are you always late or procrastinating?
Start inside to create the change and I guarantee even your smallest encounters will shift.
Watch the video for a few tips on how to KNOW YOUR VALUE.
