The Hero’s Journey – part 1
The Hero’s Journey – part 2
The Hero’s Journey – part 3
Once you begin to follow your ‘soul’s calling’, take a leap of faith and onto your yellow brick – you will sooner or later be faced with a very specific challenge by the Universe. Otherwise known as a ‘threshold of initiation’, this is an internal battle where you will be asked to recommit and stake your claim.
The breakdown or lowest points on our journeys often occur right before huge breakthroughs!
You will inevitably be asked to rise up and reaffirm your clear intention – loud and clear. It often happens, that once you have made an internal decision, you will be forced to physically, externally follow through in a very real and specific way. The Universe will up the ante!
For example, I have a client who decided she wanted to launch her own business and become an entrepreneur. When she had her first baby, she left her corporate job, used her maternity leave to develop her business plan, build her support team, contact list and inner courage. She was nervous and insecure that she did not have enough experience or expertise, but in her heart she knew she had a fantastic idea and would fill a very specific niche in the market.
Just as she was ready to look for investors, an outside business approached her to join their venture. While this was a lucrative and enviable position, she knew that it was not her dream. The Universe was challenging her by offering her a very tempting opportunity (think: apple in the garden of Eden). She could easily say, “Yes” to them, but she would be abandoning her authentic truth.
A threshold is a rite of passage – we are being squeezed through the birth canal. Anytime we are birthing a new dream, a new relationship or a new part of ourselves, we are forced into some very tight spots in order to earn our merit – or stake our claim to the Universe. “YES…I want this and I’m wiling to fight for it!”
Another quick example: A young woman I was working with had been meditating and calling in her soul partner for several years. She loved the dating scene, meeting fascinating men, garnering attention from the opposite sex – but was ready to settle down, let go of the Maiden and move into a committed life partnership.
Alas, she met the man of her dreams. As she was flying to see him for the second time, when, synchronistically she met another handsome, intelligent, successful man on the plane, who swept her off her feet. For a moment, she was blown away and began to doubt her newfound love. Maybe she should just date around? Maybe she shouldn’t commit just yet?
However, she recognized this opportunity to stand up for her intention. She knew that in order to have the committed partnership she desired, she would have to pass this test many times: to acknowledge that there would always be other attractive men, but let them go and remain gracefully and gratefully committed to her new partner.
The Universe was testing her resolve and commitment. This is a right of passage.
It is inevitable and necessary. New qualities are forced to solidify and constellate within us when the Universe calls us to rise up and stake our claim.
Just notice in your own life, when you are closing in on a goal and a very specific roadblock presents itself. These are the wolves in the dark forest asking us to stay the course. Trust. Stay true to yourself. The last battles are often the hardest, but the most lucrative.

Ashley

I recently discovered this website while looking for the yoga bootcamp dvd. I’ve touched on different pages, but this is the first time I’ve checked out the vlogs!(though not the last!). The Hero’s Journey seems to resonate strongly with me right now. And Ashley, listening to you deliver the message is like listening to my own sister (whom I adore & trust). Thank you for this.
Peace
Ashley,
I love this series of videos! It is uncanny how they are coming at the right time for me, I find them very supportive while I am currently “on the threshold”. Keep doing what you are doing, you are truly an inspiration!
